Falling Deeper is a compilation by the British band Anathema . It was published by Kscope in 2011 .
Creation and publication
After We're Here Because We're Here , the first regular studio album in seven years, Anathema toured extensively in Europe. Then the band wanted to build on the success of Hindsight with new recordings of older pieces . Falling Deeper was arranged by David L. Stewart and recorded with the London Session Orchestra and Anneke van Giersbergen as a guest singer. Andrea Wright mixed the compilation, Jon Astley mastered it. In addition to the CD version, a limited LP edition was also released.

style
The new recordings on Falling Deeper are partly semi- acoustic and partly orchestral versions. The tracks, the originals of which come from the band's first four releases, have been heavily rearranged. In addition to the small orchestra and piano, conventional rock instruments are used discreetly. Vincent Cavanagh, Lee Douglas and Anneke van Giersbergen only sing a few passages. The album is mostly very calm, melodic and atmospheric.
reception
“In contrast to Anathema's first self-cover album 'Hindsight', it wasn't quite possible to convey the songs in the same or even better quality in their new sound. The melodies and harmonies are ambitious, but ultimately something like irrelevance spreads. It lacks the intensity that has recently given the band too much attention in the music scene. "
“The“ hindsight ”effect, that some songs are practically brought to life anew, is unfortunately missing on“ Falling Deeper ”. There is of course no question that you still get almost 40 minutes of wonderful music here. "
