Political work

Müller was the initiator of the Hamburg marriage . This was the first opportunity in Germany to achieve official recognition of same-sex partnerships by the state. The effects were symbolic, as the maintenance obligation was not affected, nor were there any tax, collective bargaining, immigration law or inheritance law consequences. Several hundred couples made use of this possibility, which was not completely ineffective, at least in some questions (for example, care for the dead), which were subject to the national competence. The Hamburg marriage was abolished in 2005 by the Beust Senate after the registered civil partnership was enforced nationwide .

He is committed to direct democracy as well as to a modification of the electoral law , which suppresses the influence of the parties on the composition of the electoral lists and gives the voters the opportunity to cumulate and panaschieren .

In media policy, Müller is committed to securing Hamburg as a media location with its wide range of products in the publishing sector, advertising agencies and film and TV production. He made a significant contribution to securing Hamburg's film funding .

In addition, Müller is involved in initiatives in the fight against HIV and AIDS .
