Fatsa

Fatsa , a district town in the Turkish province of Ordu , lies on the Black Sea .

According to the 2019 census, 119,094 people lived in the city. At the end of the 1980s there should have been only 23,000 inhabitants. Between October 1979 and July 1980, under the socialist mayor Fikri Sönmez, there was an experiment in self-administration (see self-administration in Fatsa ), which was stopped by a military intervention in connection with the military coup in Turkey in 1980 .

It is possible that Fatsa was mentioned by Strabo as early as the 1st century AD in the form of Phábda . In Byzantine times it was called Phádissa.

The rivers Elekçi Deresi and Bolaman Irmağı flow into the Black Sea at Fatsa.
