Federico Hindermann

Federico Hindermann (born July 27, 1921 in Biella , Piedmont , Italy ; † January 31, 2012 in Aarau ) was a Swiss Romance writer , journalist , poet , translator , editor and publishing director .

Life

Hindermann's father was Swiss, his mother Italian. He spent his childhood in Turin and his youth in Basel . He studied Romance studies and comparative literature in Basel and Zurich , at the same time he was an editor at the Basler “National-Zeitung” (today Basler Zeitung) from around 1940 to 1946, then was an editor at Atlantis-Verlag and employee of the magazine “Atlantis” (Länder , Völker, Reisen) from February 1947 to circa 1962; In 1947 he married the pediatrician Mathilde Kraft. For the trimester 1950/51 he was a German lecturer at Oxford, and received his doctorate in 1955 in Zurich with Pictures of Love Poetry: Contributions to a Historical Topic (Zurich 1963). From 1966 to 1969 he was a colleague of Gustav Siebenmann Professor of Romance Philology (French and Italian Literature) at the University of Erlangen . He then worked in Zurich as a translator and editor and from 1971 to 1986 as head of the Manesse publishing house .

Hindermann published poems in German and especially in Italian since 1941, the latter from 1978 to 1986 in Vanni Scheiwiller's Milan publishing house. He translated numerous authors from French and Italian into German.
