Federwisch is a hamlet in the eastern part of Magdlos , a district in the municipality of Flieden in the south of the eastern Hessian district of Fulda .

geography

The hamlet that emerged from a former farm has now almost grown together with Magdlos. It is located southwest of Fulda , on the Hessian ridge connecting the Rhön and the Vogelsberg , at an altitude of 331  m on the slope north of the Bachaue des Magdloswasser . The district road K 88 runs through the village from Magdlos to Flieden.

Place name

The place name has nothing to do with a feather duster , but means something like "reed meadow", probably because the edge of the stream was once lined with reeds . The name is probably etymologically derived from "Fedar" in the sense of reed fronds and from the southern German expression "Wisch" for meadow .

Local history

Historically, Federwisch belonged to the Fulda , later Kurhessische Amt Neuhof . It was not until the 19th century that a small hamlet developed around the previous Federwisch farm ; a mill in Federwisch is mentioned as early as 1712. In 1843 there is still talk of a farm with 9 inhabitants, but in the census on December 1, 1871 the place is still referred to as “farm”, but it already had 24 houses and 92 inhabitants. In 1895 there were 18 houses with 96 residents.
