history

The first documentary mention of Magdlos is assumed to be in 1386. According to this, Lotze Windolt pledged two goods of the place to the Lords of Lüder:

"I Lutze Windolt and I am obviously to confess to this brieve - when We come with the knowledge of the will and the truth of what has become. - Hern Friderichs apten tzu Fulde - the vesten Egkude Otten and Hanns von Luter brothers and co-heirs - uff widerkouff virkoufft han tzwey good tzue Machdolffs [...] "

Windolt states that it intends to buy back the goods within six years.

"[...] that we want the egesehne good vogtye and gulde with ir tzuhorunge against single and kouff in the next six years next to eynander fulgende"

In 1553 the place is called "Machtlos" and belongs to the Fulda office of Neuhof . In 1605 he appears in the Turkish tax register as "Mathles" and 31 names of taxable residents are mentioned. From 1646 to 1651 42 goods are recorded in an interest register. In 1656 it says “Machtloss et Federwisch has 12 house seats ”.

For the year 1712, the Salbuch names a total of 36 farms, 14 of which are huts. In 1789 the place is led under the current spelling and has 22 farmers and 23 huts. In 1972 the municipality of Magdlos was dissolved as part of the Hessian regional reform and the places were incorporated into Flieden. In 2002 there were 209 houses on 736 hectares in the village and the districts.

In 1863, Ernst Förstemann cites the origin of the place name as an example of a genetic ellipse . As in some other places in East Hesse, the place name Magdlos was derived from the genitive form, here (of) Mahtolfes .

Ignaz Schwarz , Medical Councilor in Fulda, dealt with the origin of the place name in poetry. He published a story in 1850 in which he described a tyrannical peasant who fell in love with his maid. When he confesses his love to her, but she rejects him, he ties her up:

“[...] And furiously he wrestled the child down;
he struck his limbs in chains.
Lieschen had spent many a day, many a night
in tears,
when
the bailiff suddenly came up to the tough man:
"Maid go!" - he urges him sternly,
"Maid go! - You foolish tyrant "
[...]
The place where this workshop once found,
is M  a  g  d  l  o  s still known."

On April 1, 1972 Magdlos was incorporated into the municipality of Flieden.

Field names

In 1931, Theodor Haas explained some maidless field names:

  • Zerbich (Zerbach): abraded by Zirkbach : Name of a brook that marks the border of a district .
  • Ammenberg : the midwife's former place of residence
  • Pfannäcker : emerged from Farnäcker , fields with large ferns
  • Leidenfurth : Meadow at the foot of a slope ( Liede )
  • Krämershansenfeld : named after previous owners ( Hannes Krämer ), also Schneiderhansenwiese , mouse enclosure
  • At Artzwald : former search site for ore
  • Sheep camp : formerly a place for washing and shearing sheep

In addition, several wayside shrines adorn the place. Every year a fair is celebrated on the last weekend in October .

politics

Local advisory board

In the town council are the CDU and SPD represented. In the local elections in 2011, the CDU obtained a majority of the votes and thus has a majority in the local council. The head of the village is Marianne Kreß (CDU).

Infrastructure

Due to its hillside location, the place was less influenced by agriculture than surrounding villages in the past. In 2002 there were still two full-time and seven part-time farmers. Most of the workers now work outside the town. By 1982 a shoe factory provided work for around 120 people. In 2002, 44 businesses were registered. The majority of them are craft businesses.
