Part of the Fegen nature reserve |
The Fegen is a lake in Sweden . It is located in the historic provinces of Halland , Småland and Västergötland , the borders of which meet in the middle of the lake. The lake has an area of almost 24 square kilometers and a maximum depth of 38 meters.
location
The lake is located in the municipalities of Falkenberg , Gislaved and Svenljunga . It is about 40 kilometers east of Varberg , the town of Fegen is on its southern bank, the small town of Sandvik with its historic church right on the lake is on its northeastern bank. The lake is located in a valley depression typical of the Swedish highlands, in an area with high precipitation. The surrounding spruce forests are mostly swampy. Due to the high proportion of peat in the soil, the water of the lake is usually dark in color. The lake is connected to Svansjön by a canal-like connection about 300 meters long and 40 meters wide . The Fegen drains in the north over the rivers Spångån and Kättarpsån into the lake Kalvsjön and further on the water reaches the Kattegat over the Lillån and the Ätran near Falkenberg .
Nature reserve
Large parts of the lake are classified as a nature reserve (since March 8, 2010 as a nature reserve). The Fegen nature reserve has an area of 9.7 square kilometers and has been protected since 1980; it is part of the Natura 2000 network of protected areas . Entering the nature reserve is forbidden from April 1st to July 31st. During this time, motorboats are only allowed to travel on the corresponding parts of the lake at a maximum speed of 5 knots . Corresponding information boards are posted on islands and on buoys in the lake.
fauna
Around 90 species of birds occur in the Fegen area, including the black-throated black-throated diver , redshank , black-headed gull , Canada goose and osprey . In the lake there is the spring-spawning small whitefish , which only lives in four lakes .
use
The lake can be navigated by boats, including motor boats, although the speed restrictions in the nature reserve must be observed. On the banks and on some islands there are prepared simple storage areas for paddlers , with toilets, rubbish bins and wood stores that can be used for a small fee.
