Felix Friedrich

Felix Friedrich (* 1945 in Hochweitzschen near Döbeln ) is a German organist , church musician and musicologist .

Life

Felix Friedrich was born in Hochweitzschen near Döbeln in 1945. He studied church music and the organ in Dresden and Weimar . In 1976 he was appointed organist at Tobias Heinrich Gottfried Trost's organ in the Altenburg Castle Church . Extensive concert activities have taken him to all European countries as well as the former USSR and the USA. He made guest appearances with great success at international music festivals: Salzburg Festival, International Congress of Organists in Cambridge, AGO-Convention Detroit and others

Numerous radio, television and vinyl recordings were made with him. He has released over 80 CDs so far. With particular commitment, he is dedicated to new music and has played over 50 world premieres. As a soloist, he regularly performs with major orchestras and conductors (including Marek Janowski, Fabio Luisi , Kurt Masur , Helmuth Rilling , Peter Schreier ).

In 1987 he received his doctorate from the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . Musicological work is an important part of his artistic work. Since 1991 he has headed the "Thuringian Organ Academy". For the CD edition of all organs by Gottfried Silbermann , together with the label querstand from the Klaus-Jürgen Kamprad publishing house , he received the 2003 German Record Critics' Prize and, in 2006, the City of Altenburg's Culture Prize.
