Felix Josky (born August 9, 1870 in Dresden , † November 1, 1942 in Theresienstadt ) was a German librettist, author and lyricist.

Life

Felix Josky was the son of Julie and Benjamin Josky. He had two sisters, Alice and Betty, and two brothers, Erich and Willy.

Josky wrote his first poems as early as 1909, which he published under the title Mit Florett und Lute in Berlin with Concordia. A year before the start of the First World War , he wrote a prayer before the battle , which Waldemar Wendland set to music . It was published by the Berlin publishing house Harmonie. In the same year in Berlin, Bloch also published poems on Robert Schumann's children's scenes.

His text, The Father's Reminder , was even broadcast on the radio on January 31, 1925. The reciter was Max Grünberg.

In the years 1918–1920 he also wrote scripts for some silent films. In two of them, Käthe Dorsch and Harry Liedtke played the leading roles under the direction of Paul Ludwig Stein .

In the 1920s he wrote lyrics for songs by Rudolf Nelson and Allan Gray , as well as several hits for Claire Waldoff . The best known is Mein Paulchen ist weg (music: Otto Stransky ). Together with Hugo Hirsch , he wrote the Max Schmeling March in 1930 , the “hymn of the German pugilists”.

He was also the author of several short stories and plays, e. B. the collection of novellas When women smile ... or the chamber operetta in three acts How do you stay faithful today? after his comedy The Blue Hour , published in 1925 , for which Otto Stransky composed the music.

After the “ seizure of power ” by the National Socialists in 1933, Josky, as an artist of Jewish descent, was one of those who were racially persecuted. He was deported from Berlin to Theresienstadt on September 25, 1942 , and murdered there on November 1, 1942. His sister Alice died on February 2, 1943 in the Theresienstadt concentration camp .
