Ferdinand Braun , also Frédéric-Ferdinand Braun , (born February 5, 1812 in Strasbourg , † June 17, 1854 in Paris ) was a French poet , writer , music reviewer and teacher of the German language. Pseudonym Ferdinand *** .

Life

He attended the Jean-Sturm-Gymnasium in Strasbourg and studied Protestant theology at the Strasbourg University with Matthias Richard (1795–1869), Theodor (Théodore) Fritz and Andreas Jung (1793–1863). He worked for a short time as a vicar in Thann . He was friends with Georg Kastner , who brought him to Paris in 1837.

He was a teacher of the German language at the École municipale Turgot , founded in Paris in 1836 and named after the economist Anne Robert Jacques Turgot . He also published several textbooks that got multiple editions.

Together with German Mäurer , he published the early socialist magazine Die Pariser Horen in six issues (1847).

Robert Schumann set one of his poems to music.

In 1850 he married Anne de Surval . His son Édouard Braun was born on November 3, 1851 in Paris.
