Ferdinand Wilhelm Weber

Ferdinand Wilhelm Matthäus Weber (own spelling often Ferdinand Weber ; * October 22, 1836 in Schwabach , † July 10, 1879 in Polsingen ) was a German Lutheran clergyman , theologian and Judaist .

Life

Weber first attended the Latin school in Schwabach, before moving to the Nuremberg grammar school in 1850 . Already at this time he was under the influence of Wilhelm Löhe . In 1855 he went to study theology at the University of Erlangen . There, under the influence of Franz Delitzsch, he devoted himself to Judaic Studies and, on Delitzsch's advice, went to the University of Leipzig to study Arabic under Heinrich Leberecht Fleischer . Back in Erlangen, he was in 1859 with the thesis About Kant's doctrine of the beautiful and sublime to Dr. theol. PhD .

Weber went to Neuendettelsau as vicar at Löhe's request in 1859 and also became a teacher at the Neuendettelsau missionary institution . During this time he also began his writing. From 1860 to 1867 he was editor of the weekly Der Freimund . In 1864 he moved to the pastorate of Diebach and in 1872 as successor of Löhe to that of Neuendettelsau near St. Nikolai . In the same year he went on a trip to Russia.

In 1876 Weber had to give up his position in Neundettelsau for health reasons and took over the pastor's position in Polsingen. Also in 1876 he took over the editing of the correspondence sheet for the Evangelical Lutheran clergy in Bavaria as well as the Evangelical school sheet . He held all of these offices until his death.
