Fernand Joseph Cheri OFM (born January 28, 1952 in New Orleans ) is an American religious and auxiliary bishop in New Orleans .

Life

Fernand J. Cheri received on 20 May 1978 with Archbishop Philip Hannan the priesthood for the Archdiocese of New Orleans and then worked in parish ministry.

In 1992, after a special vocation experience, he joined the Franciscan order . He made his perpetual profession on August 26, 1996. He then worked in pastoral care, as a teacher and in the vocational pastoral work of his order. In 2010 and 2011 he was a college chaplain at the Xavier University of Louisiana ; then he headed the college pastoral care at Quincy University in Quincy .

Pope Francis appointed him Auxiliary Bishop in New Orleans and Titular Bishop of Membressa on January 12, 2015 . He received his episcopal ordination on March 23 of the same year by the Archbishop of New Orleans, Gregory Aymond . Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Atlanta , Wilton Daniel Gregory , and the Bishop of Memphis , James Terry Steib SVD .
