Fernando Vilela

Fernando Vilela (* 1973 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian sculptor , graphic artist , writer and book illustrator .

Life

Fernando Vilela first studied sculpture at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp) with a master's degree, then at the Escola de Comunicações e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo (ECA-USP). As a graphic artist, he exhibited his works nationally and internationally, including in Europe at the 5th International Graphic Biennale in Versailles. The Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York acquired two of his paintings in 2013. Further works can be found in the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo , the Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo and the Centro Universitário Maria Antônia .

Vilela is best known in Brazil for his more than 60 book illustrations since 1995. He also created illustrations for magazines and designed CD covers. He emerged with 14 of his own books from the field of children's and youth literature . Some of the winners were, among them Lampião e Lancelote was awarded the Prêmio Jabuti in 2007 . In particular, he worked as an illustrator for the children's and youth books by the writer Stela Barbieri in joint projects. His illustration style and the associated typography have meanwhile become recognizable.

Fernando Vilela was co- curator of the exhibition Linhas de Histórias - Um Panorama do Livro Ilustrado no Brasil , which took place from July 12th to August 27th, 2011 in the SESC Belenzinho (Serviço Social do Comércio) in São Paulo and the Brazilian book art from 1969 to 2010 included.

So far, none of his works has appeared in German.
