Fireworks in Italian (Original title: The Whole Shebang ) is an American - Canadian comedy film directed by George Zaloom from 2001 .

action

The café violinist Giovanni Bazinni lives in Naples . After his girlfriend Maria broke up with him, he wanted to commit suicide and led exhaust fumes into the interior of his car. But because there is no more petrol in the tank, the engine dies. Then he stands on a bridge, playing the violin, and thinks he is being run over by a speeding car, but instead two motorbikes drive past him.

Arriving at home discouraged, Giovanni learns of the fatal accident of his cousin, whose father Pop Bazinni invites him to Neptune City in New Jersey. Instead of the deceased, he is supposed to run the family business, a fireworks factory. The company is in financial difficulties and is in danger of being taken over by the competing family business Zito.

In the USA, Giovanni Pop, the father of the deceased cousin, and Val, his widow, get to know better. Pop discovers that Val has emergency flares from the competing Zito family in her trunk. He finds out that Val is meeting with Joey Zito. He becomes faint from excitement and has to spend some time in the hospital.

Meanwhile, Val receives a marriage proposal from Joey, which she refuses. After Giovanni's kiss, she finds a draft of a farewell letter from Giovanni to Maria and misunderstands it as a love letter. Out of anger, she explains to Pop and Giovanni that she is going to marry Joey after all. The two drive to the Zito company to confront Joey and his mother, but they demand the transfer of the Bazinni company in return for the waiver. Shortly thereafter, Pop dies in his fireworks workshop, and Giovanni's attempt to commit suicide fails again.

Val confronts Joey about his offer and finally breaks up with him. Her little son Bobby, who has not spoken a word since his father's death, finds his language again.

Now the Bazinni family is planning to take part in the fireworks competition in Naples. When Giovanni fills his fireworks at the company, he secretly mixes Pop's ashes into it. But a fire boat soaks the fuses of their fireworks so that they cannot start at the scheduled time.

Val accidentally meets Maria and learns that Giovanni broke up with her. Relieved, she runs to Giovanni and kisses him. Meanwhile the fuses are dry, the great fireworks of the Bazinnis can begin and wins the first prize. Giovanni, Val and Bobby settle in Naples and become happy.
