Filderpark is the name of a landscape park that is being created south of Stuttgart on the Filder .

The Filder landscape comprises the seven municipalities: Denkendorf , Esslingen am Neckar , Filderstadt , Leinfelden-Echterdingen , Neuhausen auf den Fildern , Ostfildern , Stuttgart.

The agriculturally particularly fertile area of ​​the Filder extends around Stuttgart Airport , a central infrastructure facility in the Stuttgart metropolitan region , in the vicinity of which businesses often settle and thus make use of agricultural and natural areas. In addition to an airport expansion and the associated relocation of the A8 motorway , the new construction of Messe Stuttgart in the direct vicinity of the airport and the motorway has recently required the abandonment of agricultural areas . With the planned construction of a new ICE line parallel to the motorway, further use of the landscape is foreseeable.

Regional planning

In addition to the so-called gray infrastructure , the creation of green infrastructure is intended to increase the attractiveness of the Central Neckar economic area . With this landscape planning objective, the political committees of the Stuttgart region decided on the concept of a landscape park for the Stuttgart region , which in addition to the Filderpark also includes “ Glems park” and “ Neckar park”. The aim is to channel spatial development and to maintain or improve the functions of the remaining green zones. The term park does not refer to a garden idyll, but wants to include the entire existing cultural landscape with agricultural and forestry use, with settlements, economy and technical infrastructure.

The planners put it this way: “The aim of the park idea is to shape the existing structures of the landscape and to place them in a new context. A coherent system of different components should emerge from the juxtaposition of the most varied of uses ”( website Landschaftspark Region Stuttgart ).

implementation

This landscape park concept for the Filder is to be implemented bit by bit in the coming years through appropriate measures by the participating communities. The places involved are Stuttgart with several districts - in particular Plieningen and Birkach - as well as Leinfelden-Echterdingen , Ostfildern and Filderstadt . A pointed cabbage head was chosen as the symbol for the landscape park, which has been cultivated in the region for centuries and is known in Württemberg as Filderkraut .
