The Untervellach branch church is elevated on the southern edge of Untervellach in the municipality of Hermagor . The church, consecrated to St. Mary Magdalene , belongs to the Roman Catholic parish of Hermagor . A church in Untervellach was first mentioned in 1331.

Building description

According to the inscription on the choir vault, the small late Gothic building was built in 1502. The nave and the choir with a three-eighth closure form a uniform structure. The end of the choir is supported by three-edged, simply stepped buttresses . On the outer walls there are two frescoes of St. Christopher : a Gothic one on the north facade, which was uncovered in 1988, and on the northeast side one from 1615. The wooden roof turret is crowned by a hood from the 19th century. A large pillar porch the width of a ship protects the pointed arched, profiled west portal. A Gothic wooden lock has been preserved in the door.

Above the three-bay nave and the two-bay choir rests a ribbed vault with round keystones on circular services . The retracted, pointed arched triumphal arch is profiled. The early Baroque wall painting from 1613 in the choir with marbled ribs, floral decoration in the vaults and the annunciation scene and apostle medallions performed in grisaille technique were restored in 1994/95. On the north and north-east wall of the choir, the praying families of Hans Lindner, Christoff Lameder (1613), Varnul (1614) and Peter binder (1652) with many children are depicted in a popular style.

Facility

The early baroque high altar from 1652 consists of a columned aedicula with a blown triangular gable . The neo-Baroque central figure of St. Mary Magdalene created Max Domenig . On the side are the baroque statues of St. Florian and probably St. Laurentius . The essay is a small-figure crucifixion with Mary and John .

The winged altar made around 1502 on the southern choir wall is the former main altar. The original shrine figures of Saints Maria Magdalena and Oswald are missing. Three angels holding carpets are painted on the back wall of the shrine. The painted wings of the altar show a Pietà on the inside as well as the saints Agnes , Barbara , Katharina , Margaretha , Wolfgang and Leonhard . The Annunciation can be seen on the outside. The apostles Andrew , Peter and Paul are depicted on the predella . A carved figure of St. Oswald from the 17th century stands in the partially preserved crack .

The side altar on the north wall of the nave from the middle of the 18th century with angels carrying two candlesticks carries a figure of Mary from the beginning of the 19th century.

The pulpit was built in the first quarter of the 18th century, the prayer chair on the north choir wall in the 17th century.
