Finist - Heller Falke (original title: Russian Финист - Ясный сокол , Finist - Yasnyy sokol ) is a Soviet fairy tale film by Gennady Wassiljew from 1975 , based on motifs from a fairy tale by the Soviet writer Nikolai Shestakov (1894–1974). It is dedicated to the memory of the fairy tale film director Alexander Rou .

Finist is a small farmer, strong, good-hearted, and a friend of the King of the Falcons. One day the Falcon King warns him of a danger. Troops of the evil Kartaus Spinnewitsch Rotbart have invaded the empire. Finist then fetches his whip, drives one of the Redbeard hordes to flight and frees a group of prisoners. He then sets off for the city to together with the stretching of the provincial governors to oppose the enemy. Meanwhile, Kartaus, who has magical abilities, devises an evil plan. Finist is said to be lured into the thicket of the dark forest on his way to the city and be enchanted there. Because of his good-naturedness, Finist falls into the trap and is turned into an ugly monster that is from now on feared by everyone.

Kartaus' hordes meanwhile roam the country, murdering and plundering. The voivode then sends his scribe Jascha to find Finist. On the way he meets the girl Alyonushka, who Finist wants to give a coat as a present out of gratitude for the liberation and because she has fallen in love with him, so they move on together. In the evening, the two of them meet Agafon with his quarrelsome wife and cook a delicious soup by the fire. Later, a grandmother joins the group who was previously looking for herbs in the forest. During the night, the small community hears the monster roaring, whereupon the old woman thinks that it is rumored that the monster is an enchanted person who can only be redeemed by a beautiful girl who loves him. Alyonushka listens. Then the magical old woman says goodbye and hands the Agafon's wife a wishing twig to reward the warm place by the fire and the groats. She thinks about what she should want, but Agafon keeps talking, so she scolds: "Brute, you should sink into the earth", and Agafon sinks. She blames the clerk Jascha, ties him up and carts him back to the voivode so that he orders Jascha to go into the ground to get her husband back. Alyonushka follows.

Back home, both claim that the other is to blame for Agafon's disappearance - the voivode waves it away in annoyance. Shortly afterwards an embassy from the Carthusian arrives, demanding the obedience of the voivod, the disarming of his men, the recognition of the Carthusian as ruler and 100 barrels of gold, but at the same time his troops sneak up. Then the monster rushes to warn of the enemy. The men want to kill it, but Alyonushka intervenes and gives it the coat with the promise to marry it if it is a young man. Finist is redeemed and at the same time leads his men into battle with applause, at the end of which the enemies are driven away.

After the initial partying, Kartaus again succeeds in kidnapping Finist through cunning and magic. The Agafon's wife helps him, as she hopes to get her husband back. Also this time, Aljonuschka and Jascha set off and after a while they reach the castle of the Carthusian monastery, which stands on high cliffs by the sea. Kartaus tries to drive them away with magic and locks the gate to prevent them from entering, but with the help of the "funny little women" who appear by chance, they succeed anyway. Finist can be set free and they fight their way to freedom. Down on the beach there is finally a duel between Finist and Kartaus - Kartaus first manages to strike Finist down, but then he is pushed from his horse. A wild sword fight ensues, during which Kartaus teleports himself to a higher rock . Finist pursues him and throws him down the cliff. At the same moment Agafon rises from the earth and he and his wife as well as Aljonuschka, Finist and Jascha return home.

Finist - Heller Falke was written in 1975 and premiered on December 30, 1975 in the Soviet Union . On August 8, 1976, the film was shown in the original version with German subtitles for the first time on DDR 2 televised the GDR ; the German dubbed version was released in GDR cinemas on December 17, 1976 in the title spelling Finist, heller Falke . In 1994 the film was released on video.
