Firmin Courtemanche

Firmin Courtemanche MAfr (born March 6, 1913 in Saint-Pie-de-Bagot , Canada ; † November 3, 1999 ) was a Canadian religious and bishop of Chipata .

Life

Firmin Courtemanche who entered religious community of White Fathers in and received on 10 June 1939, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On March 7, 1947, Pope Pius XII appointed him . to the Apostolic Prefect of Fort Jameson. As a result of the elevation of the Apostolic Prefecture Fort Jameson to the Apostolic Vicariate Pius XII appointed him. on May 7, 1953 Titular Bishop of Carystus and appointed him Vicar Apostolic of Fort Jameson. The Archbishop of Montréal , Cardinal Paul-Émile Léger PSS , donated him episcopal ordination on September 21 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Sherbrooke , Georges Cabana , and the Bishop of Saint-Hyacinthe , Arthur Douville . Firmin Courtemanche was on May 25, 1953 1959 as a result of the elevation of the Apostolic Vicariate Fort Jameson to the diocese of Pope John XXIII. Appointed First Bishop of Fort Jameson. During his tenure, the Diocese of Fort Jameson was renamed the Diocese of Chipata .

On November 11, 1970, Firmin Courtemanche resigned as Bishop of Chipata.

Firmin Courtemanche attended the first, second and fourth sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
