Floral Park is a location in Nassau County of New York State on Long Island . The area of the place forms the western border of the county and borders on the New York borough of Queens , which itself also has a borough called Floral Park. While the north of the village belongs to North Hempstead , most of it is in the Town of Hempstead . At the 2010 census, the place had 15,863 inhabitants.

To the north-west, Floral Park is bordered by Bellrose Terrace and Bellerose , and to the north is adjacent to New York City . To the northeast is New Hyde Park and to the south of it is Stewart Manor . Adjacent to the south are South Floral Park and unincorporated parts of the Town of Hempstead , including Belmont Park Racecourse .
General
The place owes its name to the fact that there used to be over 20 florists here. How important this branch of industry was is shown by the fact that at times 0.8 km² of today's urban area was used for plant cultivation. Many of the streets of Floral Park are named after flowers and plants because of this past.
Local development and transport links
Initially, the area was characterized by farms and small villages. Then the settlement of the area spurred on with the construction of the Long Island Rail Road in the 19th century and the completion of the Jericho Turnpike Motorway in the 1920s. The place was officially founded in 1908.
The train station in Floral Park has a special form of construction, that of the wedge train station .
