Florea Dumitrescu

Florea Dumitrescu (born April 4, 1927 in Necşeşti , Teleorman district ; † April 16, 2018 ) was a Romanian politician of the Romanian Communist Party PCR (Partidul Comunist Român) , who was finance minister between 1969 and 1978 and ambassador to from 1978 to 1983 of the People's Republic of China and Burma and between 1984 and 1989 was Governor of the Romanian National Bank (BNR).

Dumitrescu attended the commercial high school in Roșiorii de Vede between 1939 and 1942 and then from 1943 to 1946 the commercial school in Turnu Măgurele . He then began in 1946 to study at the Faculty of Finance and Credit of the Bucharest Business Academy founded in 1913 (Academia de Studii Economice din Bucureşti) . On August 12, 1969, he became a candidate for the Central Committee of the PCR and on August 19, 1969, he succeeded Virgil Pîrvu as Minister of Finance (Ministru de finanțe) in the fifth cabinet of Prime Minister Ion Gheorghe Maurer . He held this ministerial post until March 7, 1978 and was then replaced by Paul Niculescu-Mizil . On July 21, 1972 he became a member of the Central Committee of the PCR and was a member of this until the XIVth Party Congress on November 24, 1989 . In addition, in May 1973 he became President of the Council for Banks and Finance and a member of the Council of the Supreme Audit Office. After his resignation from the Council of Ministers, Dumitrescu took over the post of ambassador to the People's Republic of China on July 6, 1978 and remained at this post until April 15, 1983. At the same time he was accredited as ambassador to Burma between May 7, 1979 and March 9, 1983 . On his return he served between May 3, 1983 and March 17, 1984 as State Secretary in the State Presidium and as Secretary to the Secretary General of the PCR, Nicolae Ceaușescu . In addition, on December 22, 1983, he became a member of the Central Council for Labor Control of Economic and Social Activities.

As the successor to Vasile Răuță Dumitrescu was on March 17, 1984 Governor of the Romanian National Bank and held this post until March 17, 1989, whereupon Decebal Urdea on March 31, 1989 his successor.
