Florian Brody

Florian Brody (born October 31, 1953 in Vienna ) is an Austrian pioneer in the fields of multimedia and electronic publishing .

Life

Brody studied general linguistics and computer science at the University of Vienna . Between 1968 and 1974 he was Henri Langlois' personal assistant at the Cinémathèque Française several times and worked with him to set up the Musée du Cinema. He was Professor of Multimedia at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences and a member of the Graduate Faculty of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena (California) .

Brody headed the first CD-ROM presentations for academic libraries in 1984 and in 1988 developed the first German-language journal database at the Austrian National Library . Together with Robert Stein , he developed the first electronic books from 1989 at the Voyager Company in Santa Monica (California).

The Expanded Books project was presented in January 1991 with three titles: The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy , Jurassic Park and Alice in Wonderland . It was then expanded with the Modern Library from Random House . An Expanded Books Toolkit based on Hypercard made it possible for anyone to create electronic books. With Christian Brandstätter Verlag , he developed the first commercial interactive photo CD on the history of Schönbrunn Palace for Kodak .

Brody lives and works in San Francisco and Vienna . He is a certified life and leadership coach and works with startups and innovative companies as a strategic mentor. As a Managing Partner at Brody & Partners, he supports international startups in establishing a presence in Silicon Valley .
