Flotzbach is a district and a former marshland southwest of the community of Wolfurt (today a partial parcel of " Flotzbachfeld ") and a body of water.

Origin of name

In Vorarlberg, the name Flotzbach can only be found in Wolfurt. It is believed that the Flotzbach was " a brook that caused a noticeable cloudiness due to its sluggish current and promoted the growth of aquatic plants ". According to Josef Zöhrer, Flotzbach means “ muddy, only traces of the stream ”. Due to its small dimensions, the Flotzbach was probably not used for wood drift (see e.g. Flotzbach / Floßbach in Isenach in Rhineland-Palatinate ).

history

The Flotzbach has been part of the Wolfurt community for centuries.

Flotzbach near Wolfurt was called the witch's dance place most frequently mentioned by the accused during the time of the witch craze in Vorarlberg.

In the “General National Calendar for Tyrol and Vorarlberg” there is no significant settlement in Flotzbach for 1825. In 1790 the stone carver Johannes Rohner was the first to move here from Eulentobel.

Topography, geography, location and traffic

Flotzbach ( 407  m above sea level ) is surrounded by large agricultural areas to the south, west and north. To the southeast is the district of Rickenbach and to the northeast is the center of Wolfurt ("village"). It is a large reed area .

In “ Schematismus für Tirol und Vorarlberg ” (1839), Flotzbach is not listed as an independent hamlet and part of Wolfurt. There is also no such separate entry in the “ Provinzial-Handbuch von Tirol und Vorarlberg for the year 1847 ”.

Relatively narrow streets lead to and from the district that are not suitable for through traffic. The ÖBB freight terminal in Wolfurt and the Hohe-Brücke industrial park are separated from the settlement area by the Flotzbach open space, which is to be largely preserved.

Waters

The Flotzbach partly runs parallel to Flotzbachstraße and flows into the "Unteren Rickenbach" at 0.44 kilometers of water. The Flotzbach changes its name at water kilometers 0.44 and is called "Wiesengraben" from here up to the source. Flotzbach and Wiesengraben have a total length of 1.22 km and the water rises near the L 3 (Brühlstraße) / Augasse / Schmiedgasse junction. The water has a gradient of about 0.5% (0.29 °) over its entire length.

The water does not absorb any relevant tributaries in its course.

Craft, trade

In Flotzbach there are regionally important companies as well as some internationally active companies (e.g. Viessmann Holzheiztechnik GmbH).
