The Kuopio Airport (Finland) is located 17 kilometers north of Kuopio in the south of the municipality of Siilinjärvi near the village Rissala.
The airport is served by the airline Finnair . which offers flights to Helsinki . Some of these are carried out by My Jet Xpress Airlines . Juneyao Airlines markets some of these flights.
Flight operations began in 1940. In 2008 a sea terminal was built next to the airport.
There are bus connections to the cities of Kuopio and Iisalmi .
Military airfield
The southern part of the civil airfield is used by the Finnish Air Force . One of the three squadrons of the Finnish Air Force is stationed at the airport (Karelia squadron: Karjalan lennosto ). In the squadron serve 600 soldiers and it has 20 multi-role combat aircraft of type F / A-18C / D Hornet . In the rock to the west of the plate are two entrances to an aircraft cavern .
