The Kittilä Airport is a airport in Finnish Lapland .
It is located in the far north of Finland near the capital of the same name in the municipality of Kittilä . The airlines Finnair , SAS Scandinavian Airlines and Norwegian Air Shuttle maintain regular flight connections from Kittilä to Helsinki , in the winter flight schedule there are also scheduled flights to Turku , Tampere and Ivalo . In the winter months, Kittilä is also served by various charter airlines from abroad, which transport tourists to the Levi and Ylläs ski resorts via Kittilä . Lufthansa has been offering a seasonal connection to the Finnish airport in Munich since December 2015 . Germania flew non-stop from Düsseldorf between winter 2017 and 2019 .
Incidents and Incidents
On July 27, 2006, a large part of the passenger terminal was destroyed in a major fire, including part of an extension that had only been commissioned a few months earlier. Flight operations had to be suspended for a few days, and two makeshift terminals were built in containers for further operations. The reconstruction of the terminal was completed at the end of 2007.
On January 4, 2018, a Skyline Aviation pilot died while walking around his Gulfstream G150 .
