The airport São Gonçalo do Amarante (from the operator Aeroporto de Natal , German airport Natal , officially called Airport Governador Aluizio Alves ; IATA code : NAT; ICAO code : SBSG) is an airport in the city of São Gonçalo do Amarante near Natal in Brazil . In 2014 it replaced the older Natal-Severo Airport , which has only been used for military purposes since then.
It is the first international airport in Brazil that is not operated by the state Infraero . It was opened for the 2014 World Cup after seven years of construction .
In 2015, the airport was voted the most popular in the country in a survey conducted by the University of Pioneira da Integração Social in Brasília.

Natal Airport is used by the airlines Azul Linhas Aéreas , Gol Linhas Aéreas , LATAM Airlines Brasil and TAP Air Portugal .
Domestic connections are primarily served, but there is also a regular direct connection to Lisbon and, seasonally, to Milan-Malpensa .
