The Aeroporto Internacional Salgado Filho ( IATA : POA , ICAO : SBPA ) is a Brazilian airport in Porto Alegre . It offers flight connections to major cities in Brazil and to international destinations. It ranks ninth among Brazilian airports in terms of passenger and cargo volume.

history

On March 16, 2017, Fraport AG was awarded a concession contract for the Porto Alegre airport. The 25-year concession period began in August 2017. On January 2, 2018, Fraport Brasil, a 100 percent subsidiary of the German Fraport AG, took over the operation of the airport.

Airlines and Destinations

The Aeroporto Internacional de Porto Alegre - Salgado Filho is used by nine airlines. The main airlines are Azul Linhas Aéreas , Gol Linhas Aéreas and LATAM Airlines Brasil

A total of 26 destinations are served. The most important national destinations are Curitiba , Rio de Janeiro – Galeão , São Paulo – Congonhas and São Paulo – Guarulhos , at the international level they are Buenos Aires – Aeroparque , Lima , Lisbon and Panama City .

Traffic figures

The number of passengers has grown steadily in recent years. Although the old terminal, which was closed in 2001, was reopened in December 2010, the airport is still congested (8.3 million passengers in 2012 with a capacity of 8.0 million passengers).

criticism

At the General Meeting of Fraport AG on May 28, 2019, the umbrella association of critical shareholders criticized the forced relocation of around 5,000 residents in order to be able to extend the railway.
