The airport Omsk Tsentralny ( Russian Аэропорт Омск-Центральный , IATA code : OMS, ICAO : UNOO) is an international airport of the city of Omsk in Russia . "Omsk-Zentralny" belongs to the "OAO Omski Aeroport" ( AG ).
history
At the beginning of 1929 five Fokker C.IV aircraft arrived in Omsk . May 17, 1929 is the airport's official date of birth. The airport picked up two planes on the first working day. In 1931/32 the airport received the new R-5 , ANT-9 , K-5 and Po-2 aircraft .
On May 15, 1931, the civil aviation service Moscow - Novosibirsk via Omsk, operated by the ANT-9 aircraft, was opened. The aircraft were equipped with a comfortable cabin for eleven passengers , the flight from the Russian capital to Omsk took 14 hours, the onward flight to Novosibirsk took another three hours. In the winter of 1931/32 the first flights from Omsk to Salekhard via Tawda were offered. A year later, local air transport from Omsk - Bolsherechye - Tara was opened.
Development from 1945
On September 15, 1956, the first scheduled flight reached a Soviet jet airliner the airport of Omsk. It was a Tupolev Tu-104 coming from Moscow , which made a scheduled stopover on the route to Irkutsk .
The second airport was opened on October 8, 1958, but is only used for domestic flights today.
With the development of the oil reserves in Siberia from the 1970s , the airport of Omsk gained great importance as a hub for connecting flights to the various oil fields in western Siberia , including Nizhnevartovsk . Other storage sites were and still are approached exclusively with helicopters such as the Mil Mi-8 .
Omsk Airport has been an international airport since March 1997.
Further development from 1991 and today's situation
Today Omsk Airport works with over 50 airlines . These are S7 Airlines , Aeroflot , Orenair and the like. a. Since June 2010 the Aircompany Yakutia has been flying to Hanover several times a week under the Yakutia Airlines brand with a Boeing 737-700 . In addition, Yamal Airlines has also been offering direct flights with a Boeing 737-500 on the same route since May 2010 . Both airlines have now discontinued these connections.
Incidents
- On October 11, 1984, an Aeroflot Tupolev Tu-154 B-1 ( aircraft registration number CCCP-85243 ) collided with three work vehicles on the runway while landing at Omsk Airport at 5:41 a.m. ( UTC + 7 ). 174 of the 179 people on board and four occupants of the vehicles died. The machine was supposed to fly from Krasnodar to Novosibirsk via Omsk. It was one of the most serious aviation accidents in Russia. One of the air traffic controllers in the control tower fell asleep and had therefore not informed the approach controller about the vehicles (see also Aeroflot flight 3352 ) .
