The Gießen-Lützellinden special airfield is located near the Hessian village of Lützellinden between Wetzlar and Gießen .

The airfield is the basis for an aviation club (Aeroclub-Lützellinden), an ultralight flying school and a parachutist club. Here, flight students are trained as private pilots, as well as sport pilots for ultralight aircraft and parachutists in the AFF procedure . The gas station on the airfield, built in 2016, provides fuel for most types of civil aircraft with Jet A-1 , Avgas 100 LL and Super Plus . There is a restaurant on the premises.
Record flight
On September 28, 1980, Lützellinden airfield became the launch site for a world record. The then 41-year-old Jaromier Wagner crossed the Atlantic standing on the hull of a twin-engine propeller plane of the type Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander . After a flight time of 46 hours, he landed in New York City and received an entry in the Guinness Book of Records .
Incidents
- May 9, 2016 - Shortly after take-off from Lützellinden airfield, a two-seater microlight aircraft made an emergency landing. The 41-year-old fellow pilot suffered serious injuries.
- December 24, 2015 - After take-off, there was a plane crash 880 m as the crow flies from the airfield. The pilot was killed.
