The airfield Ober-Mörlen is a special airfield on the eastern edge of the Taunus on the Johannisberg . It is located around two kilometers west of Bad Nauheim and also around two kilometers southeast of Ober-Mörlen . The special airfield has been home to the Bad Nauheim Aeroclub since 1974, which had previously had its home airfield on a former military airfield in Ockstadt since 1954 . Prior authorization is required for landing on the special airfield .

Approved aircraft

Gliders , self- launching motor gliders and aircraft up to a maximum take-off weight of two tons are allowed to take off and land on the Ober-Mörlen special airfield . Helicopters up to a maximum take-off weight of 5.7 tons are also permitted. A license to operate air sports equipment , such as microlight aircraft or hang-gliders , is not available.

Flight operations

Flight operations at the airfield mainly take place on weekends and public holidays . As a rule, gliding and motor gliding dominate . These are training flights as well as cross-country flights or aerobatics. In terms of the total number of take-offs and landings at the airfield, powered flight is the exception.

education

The Aeroclub Bad Nauheim offers the training on the special landing area that entitles you to pilot a glider . Training to drive motor sailers is also offered.

particularities

Sail aerobatics take place regularly at the airfield. The Swift S-1 by Martina Kirchberg is stationed there. She is a member of the Bad Nauheim Aeroclub.

Old aircraft from the 1930s to 1960s can be seen regularly at the airfield. These include a Messerschmitt Bf 108 , a Piaggio P.149 and a Beechcraft Bonanza with an original V-tail . A historic Focke-Wulf Fw 44 from 1937, a Dornier Do 27 , an Orličan L-40 and two Piper Cub are permanently stationed.
