The Heppenheim airfield is a special airfield and is located southwest of the Bergstrasse district town . It is one of the largest glider airfields in Germany. There are three hangars and a workshop with a flight preparation room on the site.

Further information

Since the airfield is located directly on the slopes of the Hessian Odenwald , in addition to thermal gliding, slope flying is also widely used . Gliders , motor gliders and motor planes are allowed to take off and land here. Glider pilots can take off with the motor winch or with the club's tow plane.

Heppenheimer Platz is often the starting point for longer flights, e.g. B. to the Black Forest , the Swabian Alb , the Bavarian or Thuringian Forest . However, the Spessart and the Odenwald are also frequently approached by the pilots.

In addition to the airfield operator, the Aero-Club Kreis Bergstrasse eV, members of the Darmstadt Sports Aviation Club and the Darmstadt Academic Aviation Group have stationed aircraft on the field.
