Forach (formerly also: Vorach ) is a district in the northwestern municipality of the Austrian city of Dornbirn , in the state of Vorarlberg .

Origin of name

The name Forach is a field and place name. It should refer to the widespread population of pines ("Fohra") in the extensive corridor area there, according to another interpretation, to the area in front of the Ache ( Dornbirner Ach ).

history

The Knights of the Ems owned several areas and farms in Dornbirn, but not in Forach. This area was named that way as early as 1609. The Forach used to be a reed landscape that was mainly used as pasture for cattle. The so-called Dorfer Viehweide originally extended from the Rohrbach over the Forach and the Werben area to today's transmitter . In 1565 Peter Rüdisser received a mowing in Forach (Mehrerauer Lehenbuch). The relatively late settlement of the area and the lack of village structure is also reflected in the fact that there is no chapel or church here. Likewise, there is only one kindergarten but no school facility and no village center.

Geography, topography

Forach is part of the Rohrbach district in the northwest of the Dornbirn settlement area at an average of around 412  m above sea level. A. and is about 1.5 km as the crow flies from the city center of Dornbirn. It is divided into the upper, middle and lower forach.

Transport and economy

Forachstraße is the central access road that branches off northwards from Rohrbachstraße and is a long dead-end street at the end of which is the Forach sports field and the Dornbirn-Schwarzach wastewater treatment plant (ARA).

Economically, small businesses and handicrafts as well as some agriculture dominate in Forach . The last power plant on the Müllerbach, the Forach power plant and the Forach show power plant are also located here .

Waters

The Müllerbach and the Karlesgraben dominate the Forach . The Forachgraben has no central function.
