Francisco Escribá Segura (born May 3, 1965 in Valencia ) is a Spanish football coach.

Player career

In Valencia -born Francisco Escribá played as a teenager for the local club FC Valencia . After this time, which lasted from 1977 to 1984, he did not make the leap into the professional field. He then turned away from football.

Coaching career

In 2001 Escribá took over the post of head coach at the amateur club Buñol, where he worked for a year until 2002 after completing his training as a coach. He then returned to his old club, Valencia CF, to train in youth work. This activity also lasted one year. From 2004 Escribá worked with Quique Sánchez Flores at various clubs. Escribá was assistant coach under Sánchez Flores. The coaching team had their first station from 2004 to 2005 at the first division promoted Getafe FC , with the thirteenth place in the league. This was followed by a two-year commitment at Valencia CF. There succeeded in the first season as third of the Primera División 2005/06 to qualify for the UEFA Champions League 2006/07 , where they failed in the quarter-finals at Chelsea FC . In the following year, fourth again qualified for the Champions League. In October 2007, Sánchez Flores and Escribá were fired at Valencia CF due to deteriorating results. From 2008 to 2009 Escribá was then assistant to Quique Sánchez Flores at the Portuguese record champions Benfica Lisbon , where, however, the Taça da Liga 2009 remained the greatest success.

Fran Escribá had his most successful position as assistant coach to Sánchez Flores from 2009 to 2011 at Atlético Madrid . In its very first season, they won the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League with a 2-1 final win after extra time over Fulham . A little later, the UEFA Super Cup was won against Inter Milan . In addition, they participated in the 2009/10 Copa del Rey final , where they had to admit defeat to Sevilla FC with 0-2. After seventh place as the final result of the Primera División 2010/11 , Atlético Madrid parted ways with Sánchez Flores and thus also with Escribá, who continued to work as head coach himself.

In summer 2011 Fran Escribá became the new coach of the second division club Elche . After eleventh place in the first year Escribá led his team in the Segunda División 2012/13 to the championship with a lead of five points over the first rival Villarreal and thus the first promotion to the Primera División since 1989. Escribá was also with the Miguel- Muñoz trophy was awarded as the best coach in the Spanish second division that year. After promotion to the Primera División, FC Elche under Fran Escribá was able to hold their own in the first year in sixteenth. In the end, one point ahead of the first relegated CA Osasuna secured relegation. Also in the Primera División 2014/15 , being thirteenth, managed to stay in league this time much more reliably. For financial reasons, however, Elche FC had to relegate to the Segunda División , whereupon Escribá resigned as head coach. He became the new coach of the first division club Getafe in the summer of 2015, succeeding Pablo Franco Martín . After twelve games without a win, he was released on April 11, 2016.

In August 2016 he became coach of Villarreal . On September 25, 2017, Escribá was sacked after the team's bad start in the league.

At the beginning of March 2019 he became a coach at Celta Vigo , which was 17th in the Spanish first division. In November the club separated from Escribá.
