Francis Baldacchino

Francis Baldacchino OFMCap (born July 6, 1936 in Marsa , Malta , † October 9, 2009 in Malta) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Malindi .

Life

Francis Baldacchino joined the religious order of the Capuchins on September 20, 1953 and made his profession on September 26, 1954 . He was ordained a priest on March 18, 1961 . Baldacchino belonged 1974 to the first group of Capuchin missionaries in Garissa in the north-east of Kenya . He was particularly committed to school education in Mpeketoni and Lamu . Between 1982 and 1988 he was Superior of the Mission and primarily looked after the offspring of Kenyan Capuchins. In 1984 he became vicar general in the diocese of Garissa. He also held important positions in his order in Kenya. From 1998 he worked for a short time in Cuba .

On June 2, 2000, he was appointed the first bishop of Malindi by Pope John Paul II . The Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Cardinal Jozef Tomko , ordained him episcopal on September 2nd of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Paul Darmanin OFMCap, Bishop of Garissa , and John Njenga , Archbishop of Mombasa .

He died at the age of 73 on October 9, 2009 and was buried on October 13, 2009 in Floriana near Valletta , Malta .
