Emanuel Barbara

Emanuel Barbara OFMCap (born October 27, 1949 in Gżira ; † January 5, 2018 in Malindi ) was a Maltese religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Malindi .

Life

Emanuel Barbara joined the order of the Capuchins , made his profession on September 26, 1966 , was ordained deacon on August 5, 1973 and was ordained a priest on July 20, 1974 . He worked as a pastor in San Ġwann in Malta and taught at the seminary in Gozo . He was chaplain at St. Luke's Hospital and Regens one of the Institutes of Consecrated Life in Malta and President of the European Capuchin Conference .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Malindi in Kenya on July 9, 2011 . The Archbishop of Nairobi , John Cardinal Njue , donated him episcopal ordination on October 1st of the same year; Co- consecrators were Boniface Lele , Archbishop of Mombasa , and Martin Kivuva Musonde , Bishop of Machakos .

On November 1, 2013, after the resignation of Boniface Lele, he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Mombasa by Pope Francis and remained in office until Martin Kivuva Musonde was appointed.
