Francis Meli (born July 21, 1962 in Poi Island , Papua New Guinea ) is a Papua New Guinean clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Vanimo .

Life

Francis Meli studied at the interdiocesan seminary in Bomana and received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Rabaul on November 24, 1991 .

Until 1994 he was chaplain at the Saint Francis Xavier co- cathedral and then pastor in Rabaul until 1996. After further studies, he obtained a licentiate in canon law from Saint Paul University in Ottawa in 1998 and has since worked as an official of the Archdiocese of Rabaul. In addition to other activities in pastoral care, he worked as a lecturer in canon law at the diocesan seminary and as a pastor at the teachers' seminary. Since 2012 he has been pastor of the Sacred Heart Cathedral of the Rabaul Archdiocese in Vunapope .

On February 5, 2018 Pope appointed him Francis to the Bishop of Vanimo . The Apostolic Nuncio in Papua New Guinea, Archbishop Kurian Mathew Vayalunkal , donated him episcopal ordination on April 25 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Rabaul, Francesco Panfilo SDB , and the Bishop Emeritus of Vanimo, Cesare Bonivento PIME .
