Francis Xavier Leray

Francis Xavier Leray (born April 20, 1825 in Châteaugiron , France , † September 23, 1887 ) was Archbishop of New Orleans .

Life

Francis Xavier Leray received on 19 March 1852 sacrament of Holy Orders .

On December 19, 1876, Pope Pius IX appointed him . to the Bishop of Natchitoches . The Archbishop of Rennes , Cardinal Geoffroy Brossais Saint-Marc , donated him episcopal ordination on April 22, 1877 ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Vincennes , Célestine René Laurent Guynemer de la Hailandière , and the Bishop of Quimper , Charles-Marie-Denis-Anselme Nouvel de La Flèche OSB .

On September 26, 1879 Pope Leo XIII appointed him . for Koadjutorerzbischof of New Orleans and appointed him Titular Archbishop of Ionopolis . The inauguration took place on October 23 of the same year. On December 27, 1883, Francis Xavier Leray became Archbishop of New Orleans, succeeding the late Napoleon Joseph Perché .
