Life

After a short music school education on the accordion, Viehweg learned to play the guitar as an autodidact in 1976 . Frank Viehweg published his first poems after graduating from high school in 1979. In 1981 he was expelled from the Socialist Unity Party of Germany because of a song and a poem . In the same year Viehweg moved to East Berlin and worked there as a library assistant . In 1983 he was awarded the Reinhard Weisbach Prize . In 1984 the first re-poems and radio productions followed. Frank Viehweg has been working as a freelance songwriter and lyricist in Berlin since 1985.

Works

In 1996 Viehweg's first CD, Der Sture, was released with text transcriptions by the Cuban songwriter Silvio Rodríguez . In 1997 he published the book Liebeslieder nach 12 with his own lyrics. The CD of the same name followed in 2000, for which Viehweg recorded some of the songs with guitar accompaniment. In the following years further CDs, books and volumes of poetry with own texts and adaptations were published, including a volume with adaptations of 24 Shakespeare sonnets in 2002 . The book Another Voice - My Strange Songs , published in 2004, contains adaptations by many international songwriters and musicians, including Bruce Cockburn , Suzanne Vega , Vladimir Vysotsky , Bulat Okudschawa , Jannis Theodorakis and Daniel Viglietti .

Frank Viehweg's texts often touch on political issues. His love songs also often have a political undertone. He accompanies his songs at concerts and on CD mostly himself with guitar. Viehweg feels particularly close to the Latin American songwriters. This can be seen in the large number of adaptations and text transmissions by Spanish-speaking musicians that Viehweg has written.

politics

In the 2009 federal election, Viehweg publicly called for the election of the Left Party .
