Franz Anton von Götzen (born July 3, 1693 in Olomouc ; † November 21, 1738 in Glatz ) owned extensive land in the County of Glatz and made great contributions to the rebuilding of the Albendorf pilgrimage church .

origin

Franz Anton von Götzen came from the Catholic Silesian line of the Counts of Götzen . His parents were Johann Ernst von Götzen (1667–1707) and Maria Franziska Countess von Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn auf Teltsch († 1702). On the day of his birth he was baptized in the St. Mauritz Provost Church in Olomouc. His sister Maria Antonia married Field Marshal Georg Olivier von Wallis in 1714 .

Life

After the early death of his father, Franz Anton inherited all of his possessions in the County of Glatz, including Eckersdorf , the Freirichtergut and another part of Tuntschendorf , the Oberhof in Mittelsteine , the Reichenforst , Gabersdorf , Mühldorf , Wiltsch and Oberhannsdorf , the Freirichtergut Rotwaltersdorf and two properties in Glatz. After his marriage, he acquired Albendorf, the dominial share in Rothwaltersdorf and shares in Niederhannsdorf .

Franz Anton von Götzen rendered great services to the Albendorfer pilgrimage church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary , which was under his patronage and whose new building he founded in 1716–1721 after the church that had been built a few years earlier had to be demolished due to structural defects. He promoted Albendorf's fame in 1731 with the new edition of the volume “Marian Mercy Throne of Our Lady of Albendorf”, published in 1695, which contained the legends about the origins of the pilgrimage and the miracles recorded. At his castle Scharfeneck he built around 1525 one to St. Chapel consecrated to John of Nepomuk.

family

On 24 June 1714 he married at St. Nicholas Church in Nowa Ruda with Maria Anna von Stillfried, daughter of Baron Raimund von Stillfried-Rattonitz to Nowa Ruda.

After Franz Anton's death, his son Johann Joseph Leonhard von Götzen (1727–1771) inherited his property. With this the Catholic Silesian line of the imperial counts of Götzen died out. The daughter Franziska (1721–1780) married Franz Johann von Magnis (1727–1756) in Straßnitz and became the mother of Anton Alexander von Magnis .
