Franz Erasmus Spannheimer
Franz Erasmus Spannheimer (born November 7, 1946 in Dettelbach ; † January 24, 2019 in Munich ) was a German composer , pianist , organist and choir director .
Life
Spannheimer studied church music at the University of Music in Würzburg and graduated with the state examination. He studied composition with Bertold Hummel . With Olivier Messiaen , he completed a master class in composition with a diploma. He also successfully completed an organ exam and a music director 's degree . In the late 1960s and early 1970s he won several composition competitions in Germany, Switzerland, the USA, as well as in England, France and Italy. He worked as a music teacher and choir director, held courses at the music academy, gave lectures on modernism and headed the Studio for New Music in Munich . Until 1977, Spannheimer was organist and choirmaster at the St. Anna churches in Munich. From 1977 to 1985 he was director of the Neubiberg music school . He has also given concerts as a pianist and organist, recorded records and worked for radio and television. In 1978 he founded the Neubiberg choir community, which in 1985 became part of the “Ars Musica Chor Ottobrunn e. V. ”, of which he remained director until 1991. In 1989 he composed his extensive work "Apocalypse", which was premiered in 1990 by the Munich Philharmonic . Performances by the London Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra followed at short intervals . Between 1993 and 1997, Spannheimer campaigned for the installation and financing of a new organ for the Staller company (Orgelbau) in Kirchheim near Munich , which he planned himself in 1997.
