Franz Glawatsch
Franz Glawatsch (born December 16, 1871 in Graz , Styria , † June 21, 1928 in Vienna ) was an Austrian actor and operetta singer (baritone).
Life
Glawatsch was a trained printer and typesetter until he was 22, before he decided to go on stage in 1894.
He was first engaged in Budweis and came to the theater in Marburg in 1895 and in Graz in 1896, where he was a member of the ensemble for four years. From 1900 he played (sponsored by Alexander Girardi ) at the Vienna Carltheater and from 1903 to 1916 was a baritone in the ensemble at the Theater an der Wien . From 1907 he was chief director of the Karczag-Bühnen (Theater an der Wien and Raimundtheater ). He gave guest appearances in Moscow , Saint Petersburg , Germany and Paris . He was one of the most popular singing comedians of his time. Glawatsch was the original cast at the premiere of "The Merry Widow " (in the role of Bogdanowitsch). He found the role of his life in the role of Christian Tschöll in the " Dreimäderlhaus ".
In addition to Hans Moser, he is considered to be the type of the cozy “original Viennese”. Glawatsch performed almost every day, even twice on the weekend. Many of his songs were released on shellac on the “Zonophone” label - they are sought-after rarities today. In addition to his acclaimed performance on stage, he began his film career as early as 1918, which came to an abrupt end when he died early at the age of only 57 as a result of cancer. Grave site at the Hietzinger Friedhof (group 31, number 1). In 1954 the Glawatschweg in Vienna- Hietzing was named in his honor.
