Franz Schwarzwälder (born December 11, 1949 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse ) is a former German football player . The former goalkeeper has been working in Thailand since 1998 , where he was, among other things, assistant coach for the national team.

Player career

The Black Forest native , who grew up in Hambach an der Weinstrasse , came to the Southwest regional division SV Alsenborn in 1968 from 1. FC Hambach . On the 4th day of the 1968/69 season he made his league debut for Alsenborn against Saar 05 Saarbrücken and replaced Manfred Krei in the SVA goal. At the end of the season they took part as champions in the promotion round to the Bundesliga , in which they finished third one point behind promoted Rot-Weiß Oberhausen . During the 1969/70 season, the Black Forests had a serious accident in a car accident through no fault of their own and was hospitalized for 17 weeks. His planned move to 1. FC Kaiserslautern fell through and he could not take part in the games of the promotion round in 1970, in which Alsenborn again missed promotion to the Bundesliga with third place.

Despite the reduced visual acuity of the right eye, he was able to return to the football field and in 1971 was appointed by selection coach Jupp Derwall to at least three qualifying games of the U-23 selection as part of the U-23 European Football Championship in 1972 . However, it was not enough for a mission. In the last three rounds of the old second-rate football regional league Southwest , 1971/72 to 1973/74, he played all 90 league games for Alsenborn. For the debut season of the newly introduced 2nd Bundesliga , 1974/75, he then moved to 1. FC Nürnberg . His move to Franconia was already clear before SV Alsenborn was refused the license for the newly founded 2nd Bundesliga under controversial circumstances.

In 1976 he reached the promotion playoffs against Borussia Dortmund, the runner-up of the north season, with Nuremberg by second place in the 2nd Bundesliga South. With 0: 1 and 2: 3 they were left behind and immediately after the second leg he was terminated without notice by the Nuremberg side “for violating his licensed player contract”.

With the amateur league team Hassia Bingen he found a new club where he played under his Alsenborn teammate Fritz Fuchs . The targeted promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga was clearly missed several times, the closest it was in 1977, when they were only defeated in the decider for participation in the promotion round Wormatia Worms. In 1980 he moved to 1. FSV Mainz 05 . A serious muscle injury forced him to take a 10-month break. In 1981 he became champion of the amateur Oberliga Südwest with Mainz. Coach Herbert Dörenberg had used him in three league games. In his last year in national football, Mainz won the South West Cup and the German Amateur Championship in 1982 , but the Black Forest was not involved in either competition. In the major league he had guarded the goal of the zero fives in the first ten games.

After the active career

Following his career, Black Forest became a vocational school teacher in Kaiserslautern and acquired the DFB football teacher license. According to his own statements, he had football engagements in Tunisia, Crete, Turkey and Senegal.

In 1997 he decided to emigrate while on vacation in Thailand and settled there in 1998. In addition to a three-year position as director of the Franz Beckenbauer Football Academy in Bangkok , he also worked as a U17 head coach and U19 and U20 goalkeeper coach for the Thai national teams.

From 2007 to 2010 Schwarzwälder worked as a German teacher at Assumption College Si Racha and supervised the U18 soccer team there, which makes up a large proportion of the Thai selection players. He was also the goalkeeping coach of the first division club FC Chonburi . Until today (2019) he has worked at various League 1 (TPL) clubs as a goalkeeping coach (including Chiang Rai Utd) or as a head coach (Songkhla United).
