Franz Wilhelm Nikolaus von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen (* December 7, 1704 in Sigmaringen ; † February 10, 1737 in Boxmeer Castle ) was the ruling Count of Berg 's-Heerenberg from 1712 .

Life

Franz Wilhelm was the second son of Prince Meinrad II of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen (1673-1715) from his marriage to Johanna Katharina (1678-1759), daughter of Count Johann Anton I of Montfort-Tettnang .

Franz Wilhelm was appointed universal heir in 1712 by the brother of his grandmother Maria Clara Count Oswald IV von Bergh-'s-Heerenberg . The condition for assuming the inheritance was that Franz Wilhelm accepted the name and coat of arms of the Counts of Berg. Oswald III. died on June 20, 1712 as the last of the house de Leck and Franz Wilhelm became, with the consent of his father, as Count von Berg heir of the county s'Heerenberg with the dominions Boxmeer , Bergh , Diksmuide , Gendringen , Etten , Wisch , Pannerden and Millingen .

He took up residence in 's-Heerenberg and married Maria Katharina (1702–1739) here on May 21, 1724, daughter of Baron Johann Christoph von Waldburg, Count of Zeil and Lord of Trauchburg. Since his son renounced the inheritance in 1738, his daughter Johanna became heiress von Berg.

The connection of the Sigmaringen to the Dutch possessions is still reflected today in the town twinning between Sigmaringen and Boxmeer.

progeny

Franz Wilhelm had the following descendants from his marriage:

⚭ 1747 Countess Marie von Lodron (1720–1758)
⚭ 1749 Prince Karl Friedrich von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen (1724–1785)
