Wisch was a municipality in the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands .
The municipality of Wisch had 19,481 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2004), the main town of which was Varsseveld . On January 1, 2005, Wisch was merged with Gendringen to form the new municipality of Oude IJsselstreek .
Wisch was eponymous for the Wisch rule . The von Wisch gentlemen were originally ministerials to the Bishop of Münster and came from Wisch bei Billerbeck . Around 1330 they established a small lordship in Gelderland, whose residence was initially the old Wisch Castle and later the Wisch Castle in Terborg . In 1539 Irmgard von Wisch brought rule into her marriage to Georg von Limburg-Styrum . Around 1700 the rule was sold to the House of Nassau-Siegen by the Counts of Limburg-Stirum .
