Franz Xaver Pawlik

Franz Xaver Pawlik (born August 8, 1865 in Vienna ; † August 23, 1906 Mödling ) was an Austrian artisan ; Stamp maker and medalist .

Born the son of a tailor, Franz Xaver Pawlik first learned the craft of engraving and then learned drawing in lessons with Josef Grandauer and modeling with Rudolf Weyr .

In 1886 Pawlik was accepted as a student at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts , where he was eventually taught by Josef Tautenhayn and Anton Scharff . Study trips took Pawlik to Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy, before he first worked as an engraver eleve at the Vienna Main Mint from 1892, from 1897 as an engraver assistant and from 1904 until the year of his death in 1906, finally as a coin and medal engraver Austrian Mint worked.

Works (selection)

Pawlik created stamps for coins , “Miszellania”, religious and prize medals , but also portrait medals with Emperor Franz Joseph I and the imperial family as well as numerous personalities such as the Habsburg Danube monarchy.

Awards

Franz Xaver Pawlik has been honored with several prizes and awards both in Austria and in other countries.
