Life

Franz Anton Felix von Zeiller, along with his teacher Karl Anton von Martini (1726–1800), is the most important representative of the law of reason in the Habsburg monarchy . Both linked the Ius Romano-Germanicum with natural law . Both have placed the law of reason at the service of the private law codification and thus made it useful in practice.

Franz von Zeiller is considered to be the creator of the General Civil Code ( ABGB ) from 1811 and the juridical-political study regulations from 1810, and he was also the consultant for Part 1 of the Criminal Code from 1803.

He was buried in the Hietzinger Friedhof in Vienna in an honorary grave (group 3, number 1).

In 1894, Zeillergasse was named after him in Vienna- Ottakring (16th district) and Hernals (17th district) .
