Franziska Ellmenreich (born January 28, 1847 in Schwerin , † October 20, 1931 in Herrsching am Ammersee ) was a German actress .

Origin and family

Ellmenreich came from a well-known family of actors. Her great-grandfather was the singer Christian Brandl († 1795). Her grandfather was the actor Johann Baptist Ellmenreich (1770–1816), her grandmother the actress Friederike Ellmenreich geb. Brandl. Her father was the singer, composer and theater director Albert Ellmenreich (1816–1905).

She married the playwright Richard Freiherr von Fuchs-Nordhoff (1855-1897), with whom she had the son Felix Freiherr von Fuchs-Nordhoff (1881-1945), who was a painter. Her daughter-in-law was the painter Irene Marie Lührsen (1883–1968), known as Irene von Fuchs-Nordhoff. Her grandson was the painter and set designer Florence Freiherr von Fuchs-Nordhoff (* 1914).

Ellmenreich made her debut in Meiningen in 1862. After stops in Mainz and Kassel, she worked in Hanover from 1865–1875. In 1869 she gave a guest performance at the Burgtheater in Vienna. This was followed by further engagements in Leipzig, Hamburg, Dresden and in Munich in 1880, guest appearances in America and in 1883 in London. After a stopover at the Berlin Court Theater, she was engaged at the Hamburg City Theater from 1887 to 1892. Vienna followed in 1893 and Hamburg in 1894. From 1899 to 1901 she appeared at the Berlin court theater.

In 1901 Ellmenreich was a co-founder of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. She was active there from 1901 to 1912. She was then made an honorary member. In 1915 Ellmenreich gave her farewell performance at the Berlin Court Theater.

Honors

A street in Hamburg has been named after her since 1948; it is located in the Mitte district, in the St. Georg district of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus .
