Franziska Pietsch (* 1969 in Halle / Saale ) is a German violinist who specializes in classical music .

Life

Franziska Pietsch comes from a family of musicians and grew up in East Berlin . She received her first violin lessons at the age of five. At the age of eleven she made her debut at the Komische Oper in Berlin and performed as a soloist with orchestras from the GDR . As a young student, she began studying at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin with Werner Scholz . Until her father fled to the West in 1984, she enjoyed special government support. Two years of reprisals by the regime followed. In 1986, at the age of 16, she was able to travel to West Germany with her mother and younger sister.

She continued her musical education with Ulf Hoelscher in Karlsruhe, Jens Ellermann in Hanover, and Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School in New York. In addition, she completed master classes with Wanda Wiłkomirska , Ruggiero Ricci , Herman Krebbers and Zakhar Bron .

Her international concert activities as a soloist have taken her to various countries in Europe, America and Asia. She has given concerts with conductors such as Antoni Wit , Arpad Joo , Moshe Atzmon , Julia Jones , Toshiyuki Kamioka , George Hanson and Cristian Măcelaru .

The CD with all of the Grieg sonatas, published in 2015 with her duo partner at the piano Detlev Eisinger , was nominated for the German Record Critics' Prize 04/2015 and for the International Classical Music Award (ICMA) 2016.

From 1998 to 2002 she was 1st concertmaster in the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra and from 2006 to 2010 the 2nd soloist in the Philharmonic Orchestra of Luxembourg . She has received invitations as concertmaster at the Düsseldorf Opera, Frankfurter Oper, and WDR in Cologne.

Together with the pianist Hyun Jung Kim-Schweiker and the cellist Hans-Christian Schweiker , Pietsch founded the Trio Testore , named after the violin-making family, in 2000 . The trio has launched its own chamber music festival “Mai - Klassik” in Alsdorf for the 10th anniversary . A CD recording published in 2014 with works by Rachmaninov and Tchaikowsky was nominated for the "International Classical Music Award (ICMA) 2015". In 2015 Pietsch separated from the ensemble.

In 2014 she founded the string trio Lirico together with Sophia Reuter , viola, and Johannes Krebs, violoncello. In 2017 they released their first CD together with works by Max Reger.

With the pianist Josu de Solaun , her duo partner since 2018, she released a CD in 2019 with works by Richard Strauss and Dmitri Shostakovich. This was nominated for the ICMA 2020 with two more of her current productions.

Franziska Pietsch plays a violin made by Carlo Antonio Testore (Milan) from 1751.

Franziska Pietsch is married and has one son.

  • 2nd prize at the International Violin Competition Rudolfo Lipizer Prize in Gorizia 1989.
  • Prize of the Brahms Society Baden-Baden (1989).
  • Quarterly Prize of the German Record Critics (PdSK) 2018.

The poems by Franziska Pietsch were first published together with the pictures by the artist Nasrah Nefer in a book: Soul Landscapes , Poems and Painting in September 2015.
