action

The professor of philosophy Anton Bogenbauer and the dentist Sue Süssmilch manage to reconcile their fulfilled professional life with the family. The youngest daughter even introduces her family on a talk show as an exemplary happy family. Meanwhile, her eldest brother Thomas is fighting in vain for the feelings of his girlfriend Jenny. The last time he tried to win her over, he collapsed. As a result of his hospital stay, the family order is increasingly thrown out of balance. Sue Süssmilch also realizes that she has fallen in love with another man, while Anton is also in an affair with the prospect of another child. When Thomas suddenly dies, Sue realizes that she has to change her life.

criticism

The film service writes that woman drives, man sleeps is a "subtle, dramatically excellent film about the fragility of happiness, which extends from the marriage drama to a complex philosophical study". Rudolf Thome enables a "precise look into his phenomenological poetics and at the same time negotiates 'last things' in the rhythm of becoming and passing, both seriously and with amusement".
