Fred Forest
Fred Forest (born July 6, 1933 in Muaskar , Algeria ) is an Algerian- French pioneer of video art , media artist , painter , draftsman , graphic artist and professor .
life and work
Fred Forest is self-taught and worked as a postman for 15 years, first in Algeria and later in France . In the 1960s he became an illustrator for the newspapers Combat and Echos . The first experimental video "The Telephone Booth" and "The Wall of Arles" originated in 1967, taken with a portapak - video camera . In 1969 he took part in an exhibition in Tours for the first time with an interactive video "Interrogation 69" .
Forest received his habilitation in the humanities at the Sorbonne. The examination committee was made up of Abraham Moles , Frank Popper and Jean Duvignaud .
Forest has taught at the University of Cergy-Pontoise , the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne , the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis and is director of the Musée d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain in Nice.
In 1974 he founded the Sociological Art Collective with Hervé Fischer and Jean-Paul Thénot . The group was invited to the Venice Biennale in 1976 by Pierre Restany . In 1983, Fred Forest founded the Communication Aesthetics movement and in 1997 he co-founded the Fête de l'Internet .
He has published numerous French texts on art, communication and technology.
Exhibitions
Fred Forest was invited to documenta 6 in Kassel . Further exhibitions took place in the Museum of Modern Art , New York City , Center Georges Pompidou , Espace Pierre Cardin, Musée d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris , Fundació Joan Miró , Barcelona and the Centro de Arte y Comunicación in Buenos Aires . The Slought Foundation in Philadelphia organized a retrospective in 2007 .
