Fred Gerz (* 1944 ) is a German sculptor .

Life

As a young artist, Gerz initially worked in ceramic art and opened his own atelier in Nomborn on January 3, 1977 as a ceramic workshop. From 1979 he designed and realized the first figurative motifs in close collaboration with the sculptor Helmut Bourger , who also instructed him in sculpture.

At the beginning of the 1980s Gerz first produced motifs in bronze , from the beginning of the 1990s he only designed motifs for bronze casting .

Gerz's works today focus on contemplative motifs (thoughts, friends, security, humility, reflection, longing for liberation), they show people in their shape and expression. Gerz 'motto is "Bringing values ​​into shape" and so his themes are "the searching person", "the questioning person", "the fulfilled person" and "the redeemed person".

Since 2005, his 58 cm high bronze sculpture "Forgiveness" has been in the so-called "Fallen Window" of St. Mary's Church in Grasdorf, a district of Laatzen near Hanover .

He is the father of the sculptor Patrick Gerz (1968); both live and work in Nomborn.

Exhibitions

The sculptures by Fred Gerz, accompanied by works by the sculptors Helmut Bourger, Emil Cauer the Elder. J. and son Patrick Gerz, have been exhibiting at numerous exhibitions in public and private spaces (examples: “Soundscapes - making music and feeling” , “Bringing values ​​into shape” ) in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, France , Switzerland (several times in Gstaad on the occasion of the “ Yehudi Menuhin Festival ”), Austria, England, Canada and Germany.
